Pennies From Heaven
Who woulda’ thunk?…one song produced in so many different styles, performed by such a variety of different performers could traverse the ages and touch the hearts of so many!
The song was first introduced by Bing Cosby in the 1936 film of the same name, “Pennies from Heaven.” You could say it has become an American staple spawning hundreds of versions by such luminaries as Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, and even the comedian, Rich Little, has done his take. It has been done as jazz, blues, doo-wop, country, and…wait for it…acid rock. We have seen it appear in other films over time such as “Elf” and recently “The Artist”. It has popped up on TV shows with Shirley Bassey performing it on The Muppet Show, and Regis Philbin sang it for the game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
