Kristy Rice is indeed a storyteller of style; communicating for her brides in paint and pen, paper and prose, very personal stories with attention to detail and an unmistakable sense of hand. Since a young age, Kristy has been immersed in the visual. Art is for her not an act, but a lifestyle. Whether painting on location in Zion National Park or drawing imaginary flora on the walls of her sunroom, Kristy lives her art. She is an artist first, stationery designer second. Kristy loves her supportive hubby Adam, all shades of green furniture, her loyal companion, the hairless dog Harry and outrageous handbags. Kristy is known for her painted paper goodies, artful styling and painterly approach to design projects where she captures and communicates the “Momental”, moments that are fleeting, yet profound. My Story is Art – Trellis Pattern for Envelopments, The Stationery

It’s been just over two months since we unveiled Trellis in our Martha Stewart Weddings ad and already there’s so much attention blossoming (pun intended) around Kristy Rice’s hand-painted artwork. With a team of talented photographers, models, calligraphers and stylists, Kristy produced a shoot for Green Wedding Shoes that showcased the newest Envelopments Pattern. From [...]

Momental Moments – Inspired by Mucha

Today I wanted to share a bit of the inspiration story behind Eva’s invitation and save the date design.  We’ve been working with Eva for some time who was ultimately inspired by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha (1860 – 1939).  Bold lines contrasted by watercolor tones define this artist’s distinctly Nouveau style seen in so many [...]

Momental Moments – Thinking on Pattern

When I have a project on the drawing board it is all I think about.  I immerse myself in its realities and inspiration seems to find me.  Pinterest is a huge help to as I can literally document my online meanderings. Been thinking on pattern a lot lately… pencil sketched, highly detailed and intricately whimsical [...]

Momental Moments – Flower Markets

Mumbai Flower Market, in transit Been working on a VIP project for the last few weeks and in the home stretch I find myself surrounded by flower market inspiration!  Tons of detail, loads of color and natural styling epitomize flower markets all over the world.  Even the simplest snapshot of these markets can take your [...]

Momental Moments – A Peek into the Studio

I love getting lost in the details, don’t you?  That is what we as designers live for; reveling in the smallest of moments and making them big if only in our minds.  Veronica’s project currently on the painting table has let me do just that.  White paint brushed against Graphite and Raw Silk Gold is [...]

Momental Moments – On Getting Inspired

Love this image. It speaks volumes. I am asked often “how do you stay inspired?”  After a week spent in San Diego with some of the best in the wedding world, a repeat topic of conversation emerged…how do we stay fresh and alive with new ideas?  Marcy Blum presented her case by admitting so many [...]

Momental Moments – Favorite Places Design Challenge, The Final Look!

All votes from Twitter, Facebook and comments are in and the winning design board is the Chile Ristra and hot pink zinger seen above.  Admittedly my favorite too!  I went right to work on creating a design worthy of this color rich and textural inspiration.  Ready to see the look?

Momental Moments – Favorite Places Design Challenge

View from Lower Emerald Pools trail in Zion. I’ve spent the last two weeks in Springdale, Utah, the home to Zion National Park.  This is a magical place for me as an artist with inspiration at every turn.  I spend a great deal of time here painting just for the sake of making art.  I [...]

Momental Moments – Hand Painted Wedding Invitations, Really?

I’ve been so grateful to my friends at Envelopments for inviting me to create a bi-weekly post here.  I realized though that some of you may not know my story.  So this week I thought to share this post, which is very near and dear to my heart…here goes!

Momental Moments – A Palette of Inspiration

Image courtesy of Darker Shades of Brown Photography We inspire or at least we aspire to inspire, everyday.  One of the most thrilling aspects of working with Brides is finding new ways to intrigue or fascinate with our talents.  Inspiration boards have been around as long as weddings, right?  It certainly seems difficult to imagine [...]

Momental Moments – A Design Challenge in Shades of Yellow

Wispy by Lauren Marek This week the team at Envelopments put my skills to the test with a design challenge inspired by the newest members of their color family:  Soleil and Limoncello. I was to create two concepts, one coordinated and the other eclectic. I began with Soleil, a vibrant, saturated yellow reminiscent of warm [...]
