Why are the people you work with so important to you?
Amidst my professional career I have spent much of my life sailing, I have crossed the North Atlantic, Mediterranean, South Pacific and more, it is those times, in the middle of an ocean that one truly discovers the multitude of reasons why the people you work with are so important. Same with our crew at Envelopments, here I am with a community of souls that provide the expertise to make the journey with confidence so that we may all arrive and explore new destinations with a collective excitement.
In the very beginning when you Holly, Mark and Deborah drew straws for jobs what did you get?
Director of sales, but at that time I don’t think we were thinking of job titles, I felt my job was more about getting on the grapevine, sharing our story and products with like minded designers hungry for a new creative outlet. The first years were cold calls, describing the breadth of our product line and services without the helpful visuals we now display on the web. On my side was the good fortune of viral marketing…every wedding invitation, baby announcement, or business proclamation piece mailed was an inspirational sales tool in itself.
What has been a highlight for you at Envelopments?
When a designer gets their first glimpse of Envelopments finished invitations or grazes though the Envelopments Design Tools they get smacked by inspiration. More than once I have seen that inspiration hit so hard it opened a flow of tears, tears of joy. That is moving!
What were you not expecting?
First, how fast the time has passed…so quickly our family at Envelopments began to grow and so did our need for a new home. We are blessed with a diverse staff of exquisite people and a remarkably comfortable venue to work from. Second, my son who I admire and love beyond words is now working in our art department as part of the inspirational design team. Third, how much there was to learn and in doing so…discovering how much more awaits me.
What is your favorite website to visit when you want to check up on the world?
I would have to say Ted.com. It is inspiration personified. It is the one place I can go read or watch videos for hours and if it is possible it is the one place I could overdose on inspiration. Currently their banner reads “Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world” I start vibrating before my first mouse click.
