Some accessories don’t serve a purpose other than to look pretty—a delicate silver necklace, a chunky vintage ring. Then there are pieces that perform double duty: the cashmere scarf that keeps you warm while adding a pop of color to your outfit, the oversized wrist watch that keeps you on schedule.
When it came time to develop something for the How Design Conference, we wanted to create something that not only catches your eye, but also collects contact information of the attendees.
We created a custom Rolodex of our favorite Envelopments card stocks, rather than bring a simple booklet of ruled pages to write in. So many colors, textures and patterns; I simply couldn’t whittle it down. One hundred forty four card stocks were custom die cut to create this explosive spool of color.
Imagine using this idea as a guestbook for your wedding, or other special events. Messages, short and sweet, penned onto premium card stocks in your color scheme will be a beautiful keepsake of your special day. Another idea, ask the guests at your baby shower to jot down their mailing addresses so you can send them a note of gratitude.
Even the set I kept for myself will be multifunctional; to accessorize my desk with my version of a color wheel while enabling me to mix and match color stories for new designs. What would YOU do, if you could get your creative hands on one of these?

This is fantastic! I was JUST thinking I need a rolodex. I’m 25, just started my first full-time job. The biz cards are stacking up. My office is needless to say, boring. I was hoping for something to brighten it up! Functional & beautiful – are these for sale??

Oh goodness, swoon-worthy is right! I loooooooove these! As a vendor, it would be a great way to give clients a card for their Rolodex that is unique to me, that would really make me stand out when they are looking at it!

Oh My Gosh, this thing is amazing! I love the idea of using this for a guestbook. But it’s also just a fun way to display and hand out samples of your cardstocks and papers. Maybe stick your business info on one side and hand out as swatches with your contact info so customers can contact you and order at a later time? Either way, you HAVE to make these available for sale! I want one…no, wait….I NEED one!

These cards are awesome! These would be great used at a store’s check out counter for customers to leave their email address and/or mailing information. Or they could just leave comments.

1. Stare at it for a long time – check out all of that amazing color!! It’s so gorgeous (yes…I’m one of the nerdy people that love paper…I dream about paper)!!! Ha ha!
2. Put it to excellent use! I own 3 small businesses and I’m sort of an old fashioned type…I like my contacts written down on paper (not just relying on technology to keep my contact lists)…there’s just something about doodling someone’s name & contact info down on paper that makes me happy! This would help keep my contacts/customers organized and of course, it would look AMAZING on my desk – it’s like a piece of art!

What a great idea for our sample decks. Die cut the deck cards to fit a wheel rolodex, orgainze them by color and away we go when working with our customers. Brilliant! I would love to have the option of getting a set ready to snap in my old wheel rolodex that is sitting on a shelf collecting dust since computers took over it’s job. Great way to recycle.

Deborah, if I were you I would offer it both ways. I would offer it already loaded as in the photo and as separate inserts so they can be customized as guest books, etc. ME personally I want to order one of each way, one to display already loaded for clients and the second for my office to match my business colors as decor

Deborah – I love how it looks in the rolodex. So colorful and fun! I posted the photo on my FB page and several customers said they wanted one for themselves.
I think all these options are great to offer. People are different and may not use them the same, I would do the set loaded in a Rolodex – but then what happens if I need more inserts and you don’t offer them separately? So both pre-loaded and refill or additional inserts is perfect.
As for pre-printed: what is printed on them? Envelopment info? Or is is my business info? If it’s my business info that could be the new business card – ready to go into anyone’s Rolodex!!

I would LOVE to use this in our bridal meeting instead of the swatches, it would make it easier to see the colors and take them in and out without removing the screw to show how the colors meld together. Sign me up please
I’m just entering the wedding planning business and have already thought of ordering the swatchs because two of my brides are ordering invites from your line and I think it would be helpful to have the swatches. I agree, my business info printed on these would be great.
I like these for two personal projects.
One – I’d like to give a gift that I call “I love [fill in name] because…” and then I fill in as many wacky and personal reasons I can think of. They range from personal memories, to aspects of the persons personality (my uncle had a card that said “because you tricked me into calling 911 when I was 6 years old”). I have done this as a book and I have filled a small box with cards. I can totally see filling a rolodex with thoughts. I always leave blank cards or a space so that others can fill in their heartfelt thoughts.
Two – I like to collect sayings, quotes, jokes and writing them on the cards and having the rolodex on display or for viewing in my home… that would be a thing of beauty.
Start making them and obviously we will all start buying them!
I would also love to use the color rolodex in bridal meetings instead of the swatches. I think it would be great if they each had the color/style info printed on them (like mini decks) and numbered so it would be easy to put the card back into the rolodex after use. Is it possible to purchase the rolodex with every color/pattern envelopments offers? The colors/patterns could be separated into 3 different rolodex’s (like mini decks). It would be SOO awesome to use in meetings with brides! It would absolutely help sell to the visual brides! Please let me know! Thanks!
I love that you’re going to be offering these now, but would love it more if you offered ALL of the colors for it. While beautiful the way it is, I’m not sure it would be a helpful sales tool without all of the available Envelopments swatches. Just my opinion…
Chrissy, thanks for your comment. Great minds think alike. In fact, we’re already thinking of ways to design a cost-effective full-deck version. Thanks Amanda! The holders are available from any office supply company, just make sure you get the 1000-capacity size. We’ve also seen some really cool “retro” holders on-line.

The cards in our Roll-O-Decks are 2 1/4 x 4. We’ve been looking into the idea of “refills” and we’ll keep you posted as that develops.
